Schmange Music Canada was started in July 2000 by Kevin Taylor, formerly
known as the lead guitarist/producer of U.K. band Essex. After being
involved in the music industry as an artist for nearly 20 years, Kevin decided
that taking
the next step was an obvious thing to do.
"
After years of playing in various rock bands, constantly touring and
recording in others studios" says Kevin "I felt it was time to
go back to my roots as a producer and open a record company of my own”.
Kevin’s first step was to build a recording studio. "My entire
experience was based on recording on analogue tape and hiring other engineers
to figure out the little details for me" Kevin comments. "I figured
it was about time I started doing things for myself”.
This meant designing a new studio from scratch.
Less than a year later he had built a digital studio utilising
all the latest computer technology. “I totally went overboard.. especially
in terms of computer equipment and software”.

What I wasn’t prepared for was the learning curve involved in using
all this new equipment”

Those first few songs took me months to record” says Kevin, referring
to his first CD release, ‘The Dark’.
By the time it came to release his second album, the double CD ‘PhaseIV
Chronicles’, he’d already moved into a second
studio in Cornwall, U.K. and had gotten the art of recording
down to a fine art. Not to mention
putting together a band of excellent musicians capable of taking
these recordings and transforming them so that they could be
played live”.
